Should Medicines Be Stored in the Fridge?

a woman in the drug store
There is a proper way to store medications. To ensure their effectiveness and potency, they must be kept on the conditions ideal to them.
Medicines must be stored in a cool and dry place that is away from moisture and sunlight. These instructions are visibly written on the package to ensure adherence.
Some medications lose their effectiveness when kept at room temperature. In some cases, the medicines can be toxic and thus rendered useless and hazardous to life. When medicines require a lower temperature, the ideal storage is a refrigerator or a freezer. This is why you would see hormone injections in cold storage. There are only a few medications that require freezing. Vaccine injections would be one example.
However, not all medications require a refrigerator. Even so, storing these medications in the fridge can have adverse effects. For example, when medicines are inadvertently frozen, solid water crystals form and damage the quality of the medication. Fluctuating temperatures can negatively impact the quality of medicines.
The best way to store any medicine is to follow its instructions. A cool and dry place away from heat or sunlight means no extreme temperatures.
